Conservation Kids Day Camps

ALL WEEKS WAITLISTED but check out our unique Virtual Outdoor Camps!

August 17-21, 2020 at Lake Sammamish

Intermediate Level for Ages 7-12 with one prereq.
Advanced Level for Ages 8-13 with two prereqs.

Join us for this new camp theme if your child loves working with the land, delving into restoration of the local environment, and loves the earth, delving into strategies to reverse the impacts of climate change.

Intermediate Level for Ages 7-12 is open to participants who have attended at least one prior Wolf Camp week. The goal of the the intermediate group is to complete restoration projects at the Hans Jensen Group Camp that aren’t too physically demanding, but really enhance salmon and other wildlife habitats. Laughing Jacobs Creek that runs through the Hans Jensen Group Camp is one of only 3 creeks which still have actively spawning Kokanee (Lake Sammamish resident Sockeye Salmon) so it needs some TLC. Campers will gain a profound awareness of personal contributions to environmental effect, create strategies to become carbon neutral, and do it all through deep arboreal awareness, all by figuring out where trees really come from.

Advanced Level for Ages 8-13 is open to participants who have attended at least two prior camp weeks with us. The goal of the the advanced group is to complete restoration projects that require physical labor, such as selectively harvesting invasive species where they crowd native species, removing blackberries in preparation for shade tree planting, shoring up trails to reduce erosion, and transplanting shrubs to block human incursion into sensitive habitats. Campers will gain a profound understanding of climate change, and the strategies available to reverse global warming and mitigate its effects, and by means of knowing where we come from and where we can go in the future.
