MAY 19, 2012 Filling Fast: Edible SEAWEEDS, SHELLFISH & SHORE PLANTS of the Salish Sea, at Deception Pass State Park - Rosario Point near Anacortes, WA. Did you know that all seaweeds at our latitute are edible, that some seaweeds are thicken our foods (including Guiness beer) and that others are the source of great medicine? Join us today as we learn to eat "green" seaweeds raw, learn to dry "brown" seaweeds for future electrolyte replenishment, and search for "red" nori for sushi. We'll also gather bivalves and other shellfish below the tidelines to make a delectible clam chowder, and learn edible and medicinal shore plants as well.

OCTOBER 13, 2012 - WEAVING WILLOW, NETTLES & CATTAIL in Puyallup WA. Weave a willow basket and a cattail mat, plus make rope from stinging nettle, one of the Top 10 Most Important Plants, our strongest local native dry plant fiber for making rope, fish nets, and clothing. Process these plants into some of the best winter tonics to keep you healthy, and whip up tasty gourmet dishes today as well.

OCTOBER 27 and repeated on NOVEMBER 3, 2012 - LOST & FOUND: NAVIGATION, ORIENTEERING & EMERGENCY SHELTER in the Olympia-Puyallup & Everett-Marysville areas. Description TBA. We will also have special presentations from ultralight specialists as well as an intensive primer on survival shelters in case of wilderness emergency.

DECEMBER 8, 2012 - MIMA MOUND PRAIRIE CRAFTS & FOODS from Hazel, Pine, Oak and the Acorn at Wolf Haven Int'l near Olympia, WA, located on one of the last remnant "mima mound" prairies in Washington State, and we focus on their oaks. Process acorns into nutritional flour; make medicine from its revered bark; witness fire by friction using oak wood; and boil water using hot rocks in a bowl of oak.

FEBRUARY 2, 2013 - PARFLETCHING & HIDE TANNING at the Wolf College in Puyallup, WA. Have you ever wondered how ancient peoples made beautiful leather, or how they utilized animal hides for a plethora of uses? Take deer and elk hides that were harvested during the fall hunt, and honor them by making parfleche, a drum, and other rawhide tools, then follow an ancient recipe to convert at least one of the hides into tanned buckskin leather.

MARCH 2, 2013 and repeated on MARCH 9, 2013 - WILDERNESS SURVIVAL including FIRE BY FRICTION on March 9th near Olympia WA at the Cabela's Lacy Store, and on March 9th near Everett WA at the Cabela's Tulalip Store. Imagine after one day of training, you could become well versed on survival and the wild plants you absolutely need to know, plus become the best expert on fire in your circle. Who do you know that can light a campfire in the cold, using all-natural materials from a wet environment? Maybe a couple people. Who can start a fire without a lighter, matches, or anything from the store? By the end of the day, the answer will probably be you!

APRIL 6, 2013 - WILD FOODS FORAGING & HERBAL MEDICINE MAKING in Puyallup, WA. Forage for wild edible plants; collect samples of plants needed for an herbal first aid kit; make a salve, tincture, glycerite, shampoo, decoction, teas and/or other herbal remedies in a great day together.

Special Early-Morning by donation workshop on MAY 4, 2013 - CHORUS OF THE BIRDS from 5-8 AM at the Wolf Campus in Puyallup WA. Learn to quickly identify birds by sight and sound, and make recordings as well; run tests on "bird language" which you can read about in advance of class by clicking on Wolf Journey Chapter 8 - Bird Communications. For instance, you will discover when birds give certain alarm calls, and when are they just chatting with one another.
