The Wolf College offers “Northwest Nature” Guided Hikes including Sunday afternoon hikes at an easy pace, with goals of physical conditioning, naturalist study, and experiencing the emotional and spiritual nourishment of our mountains, forests, canyons and seashores. Northwest Nature Hikes are led by Wolf College co-directors Kim & Chris Chisholm and other Wolf College Faculty.
Adults as well as accompanied youth are all welcome to enjoy our 4 Hour Sunday Afternoon Hikes with us, normally meeting at carpooling rendezvous locations an hour before the hike begins:
PDX-SEA: 12:00-3:00 Sunday, May 18, 2014 Mt. St. Helens Anniversary Fundraiser Hike about an hour and a half north of Portland, or 2 hours south of Seattle, with a focus on geology and the 34th Anniversary of the big explosion. * This hike is officially free, with donations accepted for victims of the 2014 Oso Mudslide. * Accessible Hike. National Forest Pass is required on all vehicles. In addition, the Johnston Ridge Observatory fee is $8 per person. Registration opens soon.
SEA: 1-5 PM Sunday, September 21, 2014 Intro Mushroom Foray & Navigation Hike into Lord Hill Park near Snohomish WA about 30 minutes northeast of Seattle. Registration opens in September.
PDX: 1-5 PM Sunday, September 28, 2014 Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge about 30 minutes north of Portland, with a focus on river ecology, plants and birds. * Accessible Hike. Daily fee at Ridgefield is $3.00 per four adults if you don’t have an Interagency Annual Pass (old Golden Eagle), Senior Pass (old Golden Age), or Access Pass, Federal Duck Stamp, or an Annual Refuge Pass. Children 16 and under enter free. Daily passes only are available on site. Registration opens in September.
PDX: 11:00-3:00 Sunday, October 5, 2014 Lacamas Lake Adv Navigational Hike in Camas WA about 15 minutes northeast of Portland. Registration opens in September.
SEA: 1-5 PM Sunday, October 12, 2014 The 264 Foot Drop Wallace Falls Hike located about 45 minutes NE of Seattle. * Washington State Discover Pass is required on all vehicles. Registration opens in September.
PDX: 1-5 PM Sunday, October 19, 2014 Battle Ground Lake Intro Mushroom Foray & Plant Hike near Battle Ground WA about a half hour NE of Portland. * Accessible Hike. Registration opens in September.
SEA: 1-5 PM Snday, November 16, 2014 Pack Forest Old Growth Hike to Hugo Peak and old growth forests with a focus on navigation skills near Eatonville, WA, about an hour south of Seattle and 2 hours north of Portland. * Accessible hike. Easy-Moderate with Differently-Abled Option. Registration opens in September.
PDX: 1-5 PM Sunday, February 15, 2015 Great Backyard Bird Count Hike in Tryon Creek Natural Area celebrating Portland Urban Parks. * Accessibile Hike. Easy-Moderate with Differently-Abled Option Available. Registration opens in January.
SEA: 12-6 PM Sunday, March 8, 2015 Yakima Canyon Sagebrush Steppe Hike across the Yakima River Footbridge near Ellensburg WA, an hour and a half east of Seattle. Registration opens in January.
SEA: 1-5 PM Sunday, April 12, 2015 Deception Pass Sand Dunes, Seashore Life & Plants Hike about an hour and a half north of Seattle, with a focus on geology, shore plants and intertidal shore life. Washington State Discover Pass required on all vehicles and would have to be purchased in advance ($30/annual). Registration opens in January.

Cost & Registration
Cost for Sunday Afternoon guided hikes is normally $45 per adult, and $35 per accompanied youth but as part of our Northwest Nature Hikes kick-off, everyone can register for any 2014 springtime hike at the $35 youth rate!
$15 non-refundable deposits are required to reserve your space, with the balance due before we start the hike. The non-refundable deposit is designed to be high enough to cover our administrative expenses and make sure almost all the people who register do show up, but low enough for you to absorb in case you can’t or don’t want to attend due to weather, illness, transportation problems, etc.
Check/Mail Registration Option: Send a $15 per person non-refundable check deposit payable to the Wolf College, 1026 14th St. SW, Puyallup WA 98371 with participant name(s), phone number, email address, age of any minors, and any allergies or health restrictions we should know about. Balances are due at the start of the hike.
